It’s Fang Friday again! Author Tina Pollick is joining us today and it just so happens to be release day for her new book, Soul Broker. She was kind enough to give me a sneak peek of the book and I can tell you it’s going to be a good one!
At what point in your writing career did you actually consider yourself an author?
I don’t know. I still feel like a newbie writer *laughs*, oh yeah that’s right I am!
How long have you been writing?
For about a year now.
What’s your biggest motivation to write?
I’d say it’s my love of writing, but an honest answer is deadlines. I’ll have bits and pieces of stories lying all over the place and walk past my computer several times a day, but give me a deadline and I’m a machine.
Do you have a blueprint you follow when beginning a book?
No. I usually scribble down a rough outline and go from there.
Tell us about your personal writing journey?
I began writing last year while I had the summer off from work, and I’ve loved this journey so much I’m still writing even though I’m back to work. J
Has your family ever read your books?
Funny you should ask. My family aren’t big readers, but my mom just started reading and I bought her a Kindle for her birthday. I can’t wait to see what she thinks of my writing.
Did you learn anything from writing your book? If so what?
Yes! I learned I’m more stubborn then my characters are… which is freaking awesome!
Do you ever experience writers block and if so what helps you get past it?
Yes, I get it from time to time. I think for me it was a season thing. I can’t write during the Winter, LOL. Spring and the sunshine came and boom, I was a writing rockstar!
Back in high school, would you put yourself with the nerds, jocks, preppy, goth, or choose another group? Tell us why?
I hung out with everyone, I still do. I don’t care what people do for a living, where they’re from, or who they’re friends with. I only care if they’re decent people. Those are my kind of peeps. J
Tell us about your writing space.
Love this question. We bought a farm house several months ago and now I have my very own office. J
Every author gets them. How do you handle bad book reviews?
To be honest the first couple crushed me, but here’s a secret… they were even before I was a published author. *laughs* Yeah I belong to a critique group and I was cut off at the knees by a few well meaning people. It really didn’t make my skin thicker when I got bad reviews in public, so I kind of feel like that’s a myth… at least it was for me.
As far as other sites, I don’t read them at least not for a while. I try to give them some thought because I like to respond to reviews. Then I go in with the attitude that this person spent ‘their’ time on ‘my’ work. Maybe they didn’t like it, but I always try and look for helpful information that will help me become a better writer.
How much input do you have in your cover design?
For my self-published books a hundred percent *laughs*, it depends on my publisher for the other ones. I’ve been lucky though and have had terrific covers.
What are a few things you enjoy when not writing?
I like to take pictures, travel, and fish.
If you could recommend one author our readers may not know about, who would it be and why?
This is a tough one and so that I don’t forget anyone, I’ll just say look at my website and check out all the awesome author’s I interviewed.
Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?
Write. I know that’s what anyone says, but it’s the truth. Writing and putting a story down on paper is what gives it life. Once it becomes alive it’s not longer, just a dream. J
Please tell us about your latest book release or the book you are currently working on.
Well right now I’m working on the next book in the ‘Soul’ series for my publisher… deadline is 9 days I have ten more chapters to go… told you. J And I’m putting together a FREE anthology. It’s called FANTASISES of s HOUSEWIFE. This will be out the beginning of August and will be available on Amazon and Smashwords. I have some awesome authors who are participating.
